Amazon Woman

I am ridiculously tall. I am okay with this. I would rather be 6 feet tall (but not 6 feet under) than 5 feet tall (not that there’s anything wrong with that). But what is interesting about this is how often complete strangers bring it up. I would estimate that at least once a week someone asks me how tall i am.

That’s okay. I decided a long time ago that it wouldn’t bother me when people asked me about my height. Otherwise i would spend much of my time pissed off. But occasionally someone is so rude that i respond in kind. Last week i was at the local mall and a woman walks past me and then turns around and says, “Oh my god, you are so tall!”

I smile in that “please fuck off and die” way. She continues, “That must be really difficult for you. How tall are you?”

So i asked her, “So, how much do you weigh?”

And SHE was offended by ME.

(Ok, I shouldn’t have done it, but it was fun!)

Heh. You are right, I'd much rather be six feet tall than my shrimpy five. I love how strangers who ask questions they shouldn't get all offended when the tables are turned. What did Abe Lincoln say when asked how tall he was? Something about being *just* tall enough for his feet to touch the ground. . .

Found you through Sad and Beautiful. Love the movie story and your response to a question about your height. I would never dream of making such a comment to a complete stranger.

Also noticed in your profile that you like Mary Gauthier. I love her!!! I have written about her a few times in my blogs.

Hi Menoblog. Found you at Amanda B's. Can I just say, you've got HUGE balls.

*Cheers!*

How often I've wanted to respond exactly that way to exactly the same question. I'm also 6 feet and find it very convenient, though the teen years were hell. Older than you, cuz my job is to remind teen g-kids to stand up straight, etc... but they're more forgiving that their parents were. Just found your blog, looks like a good read. KJ

Thanks for stopping by KJ. It seems strange to me that people are so awed by my height. I know i am not the only one, and there are more tall women all the time.

Guess they don't get out much. Will check out your blog too.

Okay, being almost 6'1, I think we should collect some sort of book on women who are tall but who aren't models. Just your average gals who get harrassed at super markets.
