Blanket coverage

I went to my first meeting of the book club i am checking out last night. Our book was The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls.

It was all women with the exception of one elderly man, who didn't say a word the entire time. (Smart man, maybe.)

It was pretty fun. My observations were that a few of the people were more interested in talking than in listening. But that is true of almost any group.

I didn't have much to say until the end, when a few blanket statements were made, prefaced with the dreaded "They say that...." and "I read somewhere that...." Then of course on principal i have to present the other side. Because that's how i roll, and, as we all know:

ALL BLANKET STATEMENTS ARE WRONG!

Heh.

*******************************************

I was standing in line yesterday at a Tullys getting a green tea and, yes, you know me, a cookie. The barista looks at me and says, "Do you, like, have on Satsuma from, you know, the Body Shop?" I did indeed.

I told you that shit was powerful!

I've got a blanket statement for ya...

I'd rather be under my blankets right now.

See, some blanket statements are valid. Did I just blow your mind? That just happened. Shake n' Bake.

Here is another blanket statement:

We have had enough wind and rain for the whole winter already, so please have it stop.

I still miss the "R" down there by the I-5 in So Seattle. Somehow that green "T" just isn't the same on the old Rainier Brewery. Lots of good memories from their Mountain Room during my Jaycee days. And talk about making money- the beer tax meter clicked away at, as I recall, a rate of $47,000 worth of taxes an hour. And that was around 1970.

Is Satsuma a hat? You know what they all say...no? Me neever.

I am allergic to shopping but whilst I was in England, my daughter was in the hospital, so I was there every day.

In the lobby they had a Body Shop outlet. I think I maybe stunk out England!
Cheers

I've been debating whether to join a book club and I'm not even a reader. So, you think I should?

ditto Melanie.

Next Wednesday is building up as a great shopping day in my mind. Prepare for catastrophe.

So are you invited back? Do you want to be? Was the wine good? Snacks? Because that can keep anything from being a total waste of time.

I read that book on summer vacation. Boy, those parents were wack. Were the blanket statements about homeless people or bad parents?

All blanket statements are wrong? I guess I am a liar. ha!

my cat threw up on my blanket. (how's that?)

But did you get a free cookie? Cause that would be all-powerful.

man, now i'm going to be paranoically listening to myself waiting to hear "they say that" and "I read somewhere that" - because I'm sure I use those. Gasp.

melanie, it does smell good, but the body butter at least is quite strong.

furious, i am under my blankets right now so nah nah nah.

dick, i hear that! Stop already. I still am not used to the giant T when i have the rare occasion to drive by it.

franki, Big Hat, No Cattle?

maddy, walking by that store sets my nose to twitching.

diane, why not? You can always quit, and it might be fun. Maybe you'll meet some other people you like. Maybe not.

de, we met in a library, so NO WINE! Dammit. Why Wednesday?

capacious, the dad a drunk and the mom mentally ill. Yeah, they were whack.

cagey, Everything i say is a lie. Let that blow up your computer.

liv, mine do that too. I guess they are making a statement.

OMG - I can't believe your scent was recognized! Are you happy about that or not so much? And was this from the body butter or the scrub? Inquiring minds want to know...

My dog sleeps on a Mexican blanket.

There are book clubs that don't serve wine? Really? Shocking. I went to my book club last night, we event talked about the book, briefly, then we moved into sex, dating, food, seafood in particular, work, children, more sex. We like to cover as wide a range of topics as possible:)

I too take the opposition to blanket statements. You rebel!

I love my book club... although this month should be interesting, because I think exactly no one (besides me [hi, I'm a big, fat nerd]) has finished the book. It was Not Good.

For future reference, I prefer the Disney version of The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

I read that book and under the circumstances of the people featured in the book, it might have been wise not to have alcohol during the book group...

Just saying.. I really liked the book. I like whacked out people, they make me happy.

maggie, NO COOKIES, NO WINE. These people need me to teach them how to have a book club.

qt, not so much. But i used the last of it up today, so my fruit salad days are over. It was the butter. Hope your doggie is doing okay.

deb, i know, what's up with that? I think i need to join your club.

my pool, i just hate statements like "these kids these days all they do is spend time on the internet." Well, there are some good things about that internet too you know. Huff!

princess, i liked that book. So we can both be nerds.

I am all about the cookies. I could have cookies at every meal, or for every meal...but that's not really a good example for my kids, is it?

Lynn said...

I'm thinking I might need a bottle of wine to get through a book club meeting...cookies would, of course, be an added incentive.

And I am so happy to hear that you figured out how to use it. Not on your 'who who' of course!

If I belonged to a bookclub, I think it would be cool to meet in a Tullys or Starbucks.

That must be all powerful! Just like a blanket statement!

Holy crap. Now my mind is blown.

have you, like, ever tried asquith & sommerset - you know, that foreign stuff. I can never think, you know, to get some but it is, like, the best ehvah.

argh.

Wine is prerequisite for all social occasions. Especially those involving people you don't know well, people you know well, family and in-laws. As for the blanket, just hide under it when things get uncomfortable...or live under it.

Satsuma from the Body Shop? I missed that post, but now I have to find it. My apologies if my comments are sporadic. I read in bursts now... and oh how I love reading you. You always make me laugh and think. I have actually tried very hard to not be one of those people in groups who talk more than listen. Because, um, I could be that person if I wasn't careful. And it's not charming... it's downright rude. I have learned this quality from you. My fellow group goers thank you!
