Umm, Thanks?

I should have been suspicious when my mother asked me for our new address. I suppose i was hopeful that she might be sending me a check!

I forgot all about it until last week an unexpected package arrived from who-the-hell-is-Meg-McMathers?

I had no clue until i opened the package and a funny old freshwater pearl necklace and a note popped out.

Turns out Meg McMathers is the name of an old friend of my mother's who has been married twice more since i last knew her, 40 years ago, hence my not recognizing her name.

Despite the fact that i was puzzled as to why the hell she would think i would want this necklace and why the hell she would send it to me, i sent her a nice thank you note, because without regard to what you may think, i was not born in a barn.

It must be that since i have forbidden my mother to
give me HER old stuff, she's having other people send me theirs!

You could give it to Em as a welcome home gift! heh It would go well with the "Ride the S.L.U.T." shirt right? Bwah

Did you still have stuff in boxes that you don't know what to do with? I'm thinking there is a mother out there that might want somebody's old stuff...

the gift that keeps giving said...

that isn't a necklace, it's a scrotum leash.

When we were overseas and the kids were babies, Laura's mother would send us boxes of baby clothes she bought at garage sales. These boxes were like Christmas because, aside from 20-year-old baby clothes, we'd get rolls of paper towels, bars of soap and letters telling us how much cheese cost the last time she went shopping.

those boxes were a trip into the surreal.

I guess if you don't want the necklace and you're not likely to see Meg any time soon, you can give it to the local charity shop. After my dad died, my mum kept offering me his old clothes, until I made it quite clear I wasn't broke and didn't need any hand-me-downs. Parents, huh?

When I was young, born in a barn meant leaving all the doors and windows open in winter. Your meaning seems to be a country yokel. Interesting variation.

In a previous life, I must have lived somewhere where mail was infrequent, because I hate federal holidays when mail isn't delivered. Today, it was raining so hard, I didn't even get out of the car when I passed our mailbox, but that just means something to look forward to on a Sunday.

Now that's just weird, especially since you are so out of touch with this woman that you didn't know her last several married names. I have no theories, but your mother is a very strange person indeed.

Hark! The Goodwill beckons!!

Maybe there is some connection that the necklace and you have that you have forgotten? You might ask your Mom if Meg accidentally mixed up the content of two packages and sent one to you she intended sending to your Mom? Then tell her that you will get it into the mail to her soon. She might enjoy having it. Or not and you'll get it next Christmas from her.

The longer I live, the weirder people get!

When we get to be that age we can trust that we will do some other sort of strange shit that puzzles our children. :)

It does have a certain vintage charm, though ... sell it on Ebay and pocket the change!

Oh Meno. I miss you! Also, I realize I am in the minority here, but I kind of like that necklace. Wear it with a dark-colored casual shirt and jeans, it might look good!
