Blah blah blah

Thanks y'all for the support and good wishes.  And thanks for listening.  It's nice to have someone to "talk" to.

The results?

Good news and bad news.  It's nothing cancerous, but it is (i just always have to be special and different) a rare form of tumor that will most likely have to be excised. (it's called a Phyllodes Tumor in case you are the type of person who likes to look shit like that up, which i do.)

I was advised to make an appointment with a surgeon to get her opinion.  But of course, my cynical self believes that surgeons like to recommend surgery.

So i have been and will be doing more research and getting more opinions before i agree to any such thing.

Part of me wants to throw myself on the floor and kick my feet and beat my fists on the ground because i DON'T WANT TO!  I'm guessing that's not really a useful option though.

I'm going hiking tomorrow instead, Because the hiking season has finally started around here.

I'm glad it's not the Big C. Must admit, however, I've not heard of this type of tumor before. I hope they offer you something besides surgery.

My research (all 5 minutes of it) says that excision is the best.. make that the only.. treatment for this. Let the surgeon recommend surgery.

Happy hiking! Love ya!

Well, I don't like to be the bearer of bad news, but Wikipedia does says that a Phyllodes tumour is always potentially cancerous and should always be removed. It also says that chemotherapy and radiotherapy are ineffective. But do plenty of research before you agree to anything drastic!

Nancy Dancehall has an A+ average in all that medical stuff. Let's check with her.

I think I like "benign" more than Phyllodes because even though it sounds like a pretty constellation of stars, it's not pretty at all.

have that sucker removed, woman.

I agree with flutter.

And: There's a hiking season??

I hope you have a fantastic hike. It is terrible that you are faced with such a difficult decision. I tried to look it up but there were more words in the explanation that I didn't know than I did know. I didn't read what are the consequences of letting it be. Does it just grow really fast until it is the size of a truck? Does it spread to other parts of the body. I think that if it is going to continue to grow or spread, it might be easier to take care of it sooner rather than later. You are a pretty good judge of character, don't be intimidated, if you don't like your surgeon find another one. Ask more than one. Hugs to you.

In journalism they say, "When in doubt, leave it out." Do you suppose "When in doubt, cut it out" applies here? Stupid tumor. Good wishes to you!

Biscotto said...

I don't know if I should say I'm sorry to hear about the tumor or I'm happy to hear it's not more serious so I'll say both.

It took me a long time to figure it out, but I think I finally know what you meant about when you said that you were not sure that you liked me.

There is no betrayal greater than the betrayal of one's own body.

jelli, thanks, but it's not looking good for the non-surgery option.

mrs. chili, that's what my research says too. Godammit

nick, yeah, i read that too. Shit.

sabra, i wish Nancy was here to be my advocate. No, its not pretty.

luckyzmom, i m gathering knowledge, but the knowledge is not making me feel any better.

flutter, easy for aYOU to say! Of course, i probably will.

peevish, around here there is, takes until July or August for the snow to melt enough for all the best hikes.

marsha, i did have a GREAT hike, thanks! I will take a read on the surgeon. But i think surgery is inevitable. Which pisses me off.

steph, thank you. I appreciate your kind words. Stupid tumor indeed.

biscotto, just so you know, it's fucking great to hear from you. I hope that you were not hurt by my words, because it's also true that i don't know if i don't like you. But i do know that you are always interesting to me. If you are writing anywhere, i would like to know. For me, you are a lesson in fearless.

Just the word "tumor" would freak me the fuck out.

Have fun hiking. I love hiking and miss it a bit (long story).

Biscotto said...

I was stunned by what you said but not hurt.

One of my therapists told me recently that sometimes people have to tell us things that that we need to hear but that are hard to hear. She said they do it because they care.

So you may not like me but I think you might care about me. That's good enough for now.

My newest blog is To Flee or Not To Flee.blogspot.com.

Soften yourself up to the idea of receiving help, and find someone who gives you the vibe that s/he has ego in check and is 100% focused on helping you. Because that's what this is about, not some knife-happy yahoo getting off on unnecessary surgery.

yay! - it's nice to hear that there's no cancer - mostly for your sake, but partly for mine. I really don't need to hear about any more cancer right now.

dude the floor tantrum is seriously messing with your street cred. then again, it's exactly what i would do.
and what De said.

heartinsanfrancisco said...

I'm very glad it's not cancer, and I wish you the best possible result of whatever treatment you choose.

Taradharma said...

I can recommend floor tantrums - so long as it's not the ONLY thing you do. Hope your research is helping you figure out your options. While a bummer, surgery is sometimes just plain necessary. Just think of all the cards and flowers you'll receive!

My best to you, Meno -

I have been out of the loop and had no idea about any of this. I think a hike is a nice way clear your head. Take care Meno.

I don't know what to say. If it was me, I'd have it out, otherwise I would worry endlessly.

Enjoy your hike.

Mrs4444 said...

Oh SHIT. That sucks, Meno. I wish you luck with your decision, as well as hours and hours of sunshiny days that allow you to forget about it, at least for a while.

"surgeons like to recommend surgery."

to a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

still, glad you are playing it safe.

Happy rainbow sunny unicorn thoughts coming your way.

Aw crap, Meno. Sorry I'm late to the suck party. I'm just reading this now.

Yeah, get it removed. I know, I know, surgery sucks and I'm no big fan of it either. But you could be looking at far worse if you don't.

Besides, you can milk the recovery for all you're worth.

If you don't like your surgeon, find another one. YOU are in charge, not him/her.

And if you have any questions, email me at yahoo.

Love you. xoxoxo
