Yadda.....

His ears

Thank you all so much for your birthday wishes for Em, and the compliments for me. The lucky thing for us is that Em is a lot like me, personality-wise. (This summer she went to a camp and took the Myers-Briggs personality test. "What letters are you?" i asked. "INFP." Guess who else has the exact same letters.) And i know how someone like me likes to be treated. If she was a girly-girl i would be lost.

My other strength is that i know how to apologize. After i cool off for a while.

I had birthday cake for breakfast.

Now, on the other end of the spectrum; I am taking my mom to a lecture tonight by Frank McCourt, the guy who wrote Angelas Ashes and 'Tis, and some other book too. I had tickets and the Mister isn't interested, and i know she likes him and it was 2 months ago that i asked her, and that seemed like forever, and now it's here. We are going to dinner first. What will we talk about? Well, there's always a martini (or two) to lubricate the interaction. And then there's Thanksgiving. But there will be more people there to dilute the mom dose.

This morning the plumber left our house and we have a new water heater and are minus $2,200.00. This after we spent $18k this summer with the same company to install a new water line to the house. I should have been a plumber or i'm going to have to start shagging one.

Cheers!

What kind of cake? (I'm only thinking about dieting and there's saliva involved.)

Go easy on the martinis. It would be a shame to snore during the lecture.

We have a brother-in-law plumber. But he's a bad plumber (I can say that here), so it's painful either way - shoddy work worth what you pay, or paying through the nose and ultimately insulting the b-i-l.

(OK, this has happened before. I'm pretty sure I did type the password correctly - Blogger is f-ing with me!)

Mmm. Birthday cake and martinis. There are worse ways to go through the day. Good luck with mom, at least you're seeing a wonderful author!

Happy early Thanksgiving. Enjoy the, erm, cranberry "sauce."

The internet tells me I am INTJ.

Whatever that means.

Fucking Jungians...

de, it was as french vanilla cake with milk chocolate frosting. Mmmm. And ice cream too. Mint chocolate chip with fudge swirls. Am i helping? At least you don;t have to shag the BIL to get your bad plumbing done.

princess, it doesn't get any better than that.

lazy, i will have to get out my little booklet and see what it says about you. Because if the internet say it, it MUST be true.

LazyLazyMe said...

You have a booklet with me in it?

Can I have one?

Yeah, I shoulda married a roofer! These tradesmen make such a good buck and here's my husband gone to university for 9 years and started out with being in debt only having to borrow a whole lot more to set up a practice.

I'm all for cake any time of day!

Happy Thanksgiving and I'm sure that lecture was interesting.

I am an ESTJ - just call me "bossy". My BF is a plumber, but a good one, and he does a lot of cash jobs on the side. The downside is, of course, dealing with clogged toilets. I'm pretty sure you couldn't pay me enough to deal with those everyday.

I'm jealous of your dietary choices today -it has pretty much been soup and juice around here for me.. have a great Thanksgiving!

I missed the party, so belated happy day to Em! I'm glad you guys have each other. But I am sorry that she attended a camp in which Myers-Briggs tests were administered. I think I'd rather do macrame.

We don't have plumbing issues, but I decided to start screwing an electrician after our basement remodel. Actually, anyone in a tool belt is okay with me...

Before you result to a third martini, shift the conversation to Em and tell your mom how proud you are of her, just like you did in the previous post. Its more thoughtful than say discussing the weather (the only subject I can discuss with my in-laws) and less confrontational than say politics.

Hm. I think maybe I should be shagging a nutritionist or a personal trainer. LOL

I hope you and your mom are able to find pleasant, neutral things to talk about so you can begin to get to know each other without all the gunk. That is what I'm trying to do with mine. So far, so good. Don't know if I could handle a full dinner with her though~

Peace,

~Chani

I installed our water heater last year, and I will be reroofing our house next year. I would have been glad to help you out (and since you know I'm married I wouldn't make you shag me for it). I rewired the lighting circuits a few years ago. I rebuilt my VW van's engine (in the living room - won't be doing that again). I am not especially handy, I just don't have a lot of money, I read books and watch how-to TV shows and I am not afraid to try new things and I am especially not afraid to make mistakes. Everything still works, so I guess I do a decent job.

And for the record, champagne goes best with birthday cake. (what is it with females and mint ice cream? you, my wife and my daughter. ugh.)

martinis before the lecture with your mom sounds like a must.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours, Meno. I'm grateful to have "met" you this year.

How about talking about the books? I hope you guys have a nice time.

Home repairs suck. It's esp. painful when you don't *see* the work (as in the case of plumbing and hot water heaters). But hot and cold running water is pretty much a must so shag away! Mister will understand.....

shagging a plumber..now THAT is a post I can't wait to read.

love that you had cake for breakfast.

Cheerin cheerin cheerin for your blog! GOOOOO NaBloPoMo yeah!!!

*this comment brought to you by an official NaBlo Cheering Owl*

I wanted to write something clever about plumbers really knowing how to shag well because they know about pipes but it sounds more clever in my head *heh* Instead I'll just go Rah Rah sis Goom Bah!

ENFP in the house! We were just chatting about this over dinner tonight as the rain was falling here in very very wet Seattle (note: we broke a record for the wettest month ever). I think it's fun to talk about how those for little letters differentiate personalities. Take care Meno and enjoy holidays!

QT said...

Meno, dammit all and the fact that I have to keep re-signing in - my post was supposed to say

He does a lot of cash jobs on the side -Maybe he can come "clean your pipes"

The effect is lost, but I just had to get the offer in there!

Happy Thanksgiving to you

Birthday cake for breakfast = "I think I feel a song coming on"

Keeping my fingers crossed for the Mom night. Order martinis till her eyes glaze a bit. That usually works.

If you're going to shag a plumber, try to find one that knows how to dress. With all the money they make, you'd think they could buy pants that actually fit.

I'm not sure what happened; I left a comment last night, even made it past the secret password the very first time, and now it's not here. not sure what I did wrong.

anyway, he is so sweet, he looks like cuppycake; well, his ears do, atleast.

I hope you enjoyed Frank McCourt. I would love to see him in person. His book was so heartrenching and well written, you could almost picture it. I love irish and british books/movies, anyway. have you seen Evelyn, with pierce brosnan? it was a tearjerker, as well, but with a happy ending.

I hate to hear that you had to spend so much money on a new water line, why in the world did it cost so much? we need our bathroom floor replaced, a project one guy has told me is no biggie, should take a couple of days, another said is a major project and to expect it to take about a week. their estimates were very different, as you might imagine. I'm just afraid someone will innocently go into the restroom, sit for a spell, and take a trip to the cellar. should prove to be interesting...

Holy Shit, 20K? I think you'd better get out that red negligee next time :)

Happy Thanksgiving! Glad you had cake for breakfast :)~

By the way, I'm INFP too.

Doc and I have been looking at the picture and we can't figure out where the rest of the cat is! Is that a countertop of stone or is it a fabric something-or-other. And where is that cat's body?

Lazy, INTJ: Have original minds and great drive for implementing their ideas and achieving their goals. Quickly see patterns in external events and develop long-range explanatory perspectives. When committed, organize a job and carry it through. Skeptical and independent, have high standards of competence and performance-for themselves and others. It doesn’t actually say curmudgeon, does it?

MOI, a roofer or electrician would have been good too. I’ll be busy with all those new “special friends.”

qt, ESTJ: “Practical, realistic, matter-of-fact. Decisive, quickly moves to implement decisions. Organize projects and people to get things done, focus on getting results in the most efficient way possible. Take care of routine details. Have a clear set of logical standards, systematically follow them and want others to also. Forceful in implementing their plans.” Yeah, sounds like bossy to me. But we need you folks to get things done.

Mignon, thank you! An electrician is an equally economically valid choice.

Patches, If i had three martinis i would either be passed out or puking, which isn’t a bad idea.

Chani, Go for it with the trainer! They’re usually in great shape. Dinner was okay. My mother is adept at filling silence, and so she did.

Bob, too bad i didn’t know! Next time i’ll call on you. Although if you rebuilt an engine in the living room, i’m not so sure it’s a good idea. I prefer vanilla ice cream with cake, but Em likes the odd flavors of ice cream and it was her birthday.

Jennifer, thank you. I am grateful for having met you too.

u-u, i’m sure that the Mister will be understanding about this, but just in case, let’s not tell him.

Jen, you might have to wait a looong time for that post.

D Owl, thank you for the cheer!

Egan, ENFP: “Warmly enthusiastic and imaginative. See life as full of possibilities. Makes connections between events and information very quickly, and confidently proceed based on the patterns they see. Want a lot of affirmation from others, and readily give appreciation and support. Spontaneous and flexible, often rely on their ability to improvise and their verbal fluency.” It is fun to talk about these letters and what they mean, and what they don’t mean! Happy T-Day!

qt, i think blogger is being a bitch today. But i’m smiling about the pipe cleaning.

Maggie, breakfast of champions! I won’t shag the plumber unless he’s cute! I have my priorities.

Holly, like i said, i think blogger is being a bitch. My kitty is a cute boy. He is the squeaky kind of kitty. Frank was funny, and i did enjoy him. Our house is a long way from the street and down a steep hill, so trench digging was required. Sigh.

josephine, i'm looking for my silk undies for next time. A fellow INFP! That explains a lot.

greent, that is a window cut out thing in our fireplace chimney. The cats love to sleep in it and survey the house from their lofty perch. Sometimes just a tail will be hanging out.

The ENFP stuff does sound quite a bit like me. Now I have to read about your Turkey Day hijinx.

How was Frank McCourt? I didn't read Angela's Ashes, but I read Tis. I'm jealous! Was he swearing like a sailor and so damn English you could eat him on a crumpet? I just love how blue collar, real, and warm he is combined with a brilliant flair for writing. Such a fascinating life that guy had.

meno said...

egan, i thought it sounded like you might be, but i don't know you well enough to really tell.

mamap, he was funny and real and profane. And Irish as hell, with that lovelt lilt
