Clueless
The Mister and i went to an obligatory brunch with my parents yesterday.
Those of you who have been following the adventures of meno know that my mother likes to talk, and is constitutionally unable to listen.
So all that was needed from me was the occasional "uh huh," "really?" " is that right?" and "you don't say," to keep the monologue conversation going.
As she likes to do, she began to complain about one of my brothers and his wife, who had visited them a few days before. "I never learn anything from them about their lives when they are here," she whined.
"Did you ask them any questions?" i asked.
"Oh you," she answers, "don't be that way." Which is her standard reply when i say something she isn't expecting or doesn't like.
I am not wondering why she didn't learn anything from them.

Deja vu with an exponent.
This is too rich for a short story, perhaps a multi-volume family history, or a mini-series.
Oh you. She honestly said that?
Oh my fucking god. You win.
Moms and their bubbles they live in. The "Oh you" is an instant force field (rather weak) for keeping the bubble from bursting. Unfortunately it burst.
I often wish I had your boldness and wit.
Oh, you! Thank God you didn't inherit that particular way of avoiding a conversation
OH MY GOSH.
We have the same mother.
At least you know...
Not only "oh you," but "Don't be that way" which clearly implies that YOU are the one at fault. I think Oh-You deserves a medal for not sticking a steak knife in her gizzard.
ornamental ears, like earrings? pretty but not for hearing?
deb, yeppers. But, this is a contest i would prefer not to win.
maggie, years of practice honey, YEARS!
flutter, oh you!
sari, sisters! I always wanted a sister.
stinkypaw, boy do i know.
hearts, one time i stuck her with a straight pin. She didn't deflate, oddly.
My mum does listen, up to a point, but I think she secretly disapproves of most of what she hears. That's almost as bad.
Clearly our mothers both got their degrees from the same Mom College.
I've known so many people like that! :)

it is clearly everyone else's job to divine your mother's needs and to satisfy them. So - suggesting that she actually DO something about them is so clearly not the correct order of the universe and is not to be tolerated.
which is why she cannot be tolerated?
My Mom left all her shit-izms at her house when she moved in with me. Good thing or she'd be eating outta the dog dish...yea right...
Keeping the monologue going HA!
Goood one.
Hmmm. I once stuck my older brother with a straight pin because he was so pompous I thought he would pop. He didn't, either, but I got spanked. Sometimes there is no justice in the world.
I have friends like your mom. And they make me crazy.
Does she say the same about you to your brother?
this reads so painfully familiar I'm going to assume I also share a mother with you and sari ;)
(an omnipresent a rather prolific one at that.)
