In which i cave in to my own sick needs

It snowed here last night. Today the world is beautiful. These prints are from a raccoon that walked across our lawn sometime last night. And bonus of all bonuses, school was cancelled.

I went up to Em's room early in the morning to tell her the news. She was in the shower.

"What!" she yelled at me in a distinctly unpleasant manner.
"School is closed," i replied.
"SCORE!" she yells, wraps her hair in a towel and jumps back into bed.

The roads are okay to drive on, i hear. I can't get up our driveway. It was a quiet day at House Wobegon.

Someone has designated this as "National De-Lurking Week."

This means that anyone who reads my blog with some regularity is encouraged to leave a comment and say hi this week.

I have been having mixed feelings about this, because really, i don't think anyone would read a blog and never comment. Would they?

But then, curiosity (meow!) has gotten the better of me, so i am posting about it in hopes of encouraging all to say hi.

Oh how I envy your long and quiet day....not that have any right to complain about the current state of affairs, since I benefited from many long quiet days last year.

I don't know if I'm delurking technically since I think I've commented on your blog before but Howdy! I enjoy reading your blog - yours is one of those that I read every day :)

I'm here. But you knew that. Happy de-lurking week to you!

Hi! I've been reading you with some regularity, but don't think I've commented. So there is at least one of us out there...

There are a number of blogs that I read but never consider offering comments... I sometimes start one but then delete, figuring I'm not adding anything original to the thought process. Or maybe my mind is too scrambled to form a proper thought so I just amble on down Blog Avenue. According to my stats I get a lot more readers than indicated by comments, and like you, I get curious. Oh, yeah... Hi! KJ

You guys are lucky to have had a storm. Our lawns barely have received a dusting of the white stuff... I don't always comment but am faithful as they come in my reading. I always get that oh! yesss! kind of feeling every time you write a new post. Is that pathetic? Who cares.I've earned the right to be ridiculous from time to time.

...and another "de-lurks"....
I've enjoyed your posts for a long time! Just saying hi~

Hi, from a regular. Can't bear to be left out. Love the racoon foot prints. I hope your new year is full of joy.

Princess in Galoshes said...

I'm not delurking. I make my presence quite known all the time. But HI anyway, and I am taking a premptive snow day from work, tomorrow, so wheeeeee!

Anonymous said...

Oh okay, hi; delurking. :)

SUEB0B said...

I have been reading a lot in my bloglines feed, which leads me to comment a lot less.

According to my stats, about 90 people a day who never comment read my blog. Sheesh.

Anonymous said...

ha. as if you need my big mouth lending it's voice on national delurking week.

i mean, you get enough of that the rest of the year, right.

shara said...

Never been here before, to the best of my knowledge, but the raccoon footprints have got me hooked. So no lurking about. Snowed here last night too, no raccoons though. Damn.

karmic said...

Snow day is always good! Is there gonna be a national lurking day too? :)

Anonymous said...

Happy Snow Day!! Cool picture.

There are a ZILLION lurkers out there. ZILLIONS, I say! Install a site meter and you'll see what I mean.

I, though, am not a lurker. I may, in fact, be the antithesis of "lurker." I'm so far from "lurker" that I may even be considered a "stalker."

So, there you have it...

V said...

Please send snow!

I'm not a good commenter, but I'm pretty sure I'm not a non-commenter. But HI anyway! :)

Anonymous said...

I check in on you every day, but I'm a terrible comment leaver.

Still not a single flake here in upstate New York. To the north of us they've had a few inches...but nothing in my area.

No snow equals no skiing and that equals two very disgruntled daughters at my house.

QT said...

I love the pic and envy your quiet snow day at home.

I think I might qualify as "stalker"....

Anonymous said...

I haven't commented for awhile so I may qualify as a lurker now. Generally, someone else has usually said what I would say, proving that I am either slow and/or just like everyone else, neither of which attributes I like to publicize:-)

And also, according to my stats I have many regular readers, but only a few who comment regularly. Like Meno.

I also have found that if I leave comments I end up spending too much time on the computer, formulating the comment, retyping the word verification over and over and checking back to see if I started a big fight or if everyone totally ignored my pithy words. So I don't leave comments too often.

(just now I had to argue with blogger about whether I have an account-I gave up and posted anon.)

Wasn't there a scene in Harvey - in the end where Harvey left tracks as he walked beside Jimmy Stewart proving that he really did exist? Even if I've got it all wrong, that's what I thought of when I saw your snow picture.

Happy Snow Day to Em, and to Meno too.

AC said...

Not a lurker, but still new.

We had 20 minutes of fluffy flakes the other morning not enough to host a footprint.

Anonymous said...

I'm a lurker, but in my defense, I just found your blog recently and quite enjoy it. So anyway - Hi!

Anonymous said...

Yes, a lurker... I only leave comments when I feel that I really have something worthwhile to contribute... Wow - what does that say :o)

Josephine said...

Hi, still here :)

sari said...

Well a comment is a comment, I wish people would delurk for me. I'll make up my own delurking week some other time, ha ha.

By the way, since you're snowed it, I've tagged you. You're it!

I like your raccoon prints.

Gretchen said...

I read, but rarely comment...

Kellyology said...

Love the house wobegon...lol!

I don't always comment either. I used to, but have gotten lazier as I added more and more blogs to my reader to read.

Andrea Frazer said...

Hi - I would like to say to all the readers who have delurked for the first time but whose first comment is "I suck" or "I don't have something interesting to say" has to stop that. First of all, you don't want peoples first impression of you to be a negative one, even if you feel some negativity inside. Second, if you truly feel that you suck, then you need to work on that. Everyone has something to say. I am sure there are a ton of things that people would find interesting that you take for granted. I really believe in the power of words and that we should choose them carefully. And if I sound pedantic here, I don't care. You are here on this earth and worthy of comment just like us other freaks, so there!

I leave comments from time to time but mostly just feel guilty because I read your great, thoughtful posts (like the previous one about marriage) but don't take the time to say anything. Sorry.

I feel like I know a part of you from your blog and from the comments you leave on mine. Your Charlotte's Web story really made me sad (not the dying spider part but the insensitive mom part). Thanks for not being a lurker on my blog because I really appreciate your comments. I'll try to do better. Promise.

well gee, that's a lot of people. Some of whom i know, and some of whom i don't.

patches, given the excitement that is your life recently, i can see why you would appreciate a nice quiet day.

d owl, you have commented before, and i read your blog so i guess you are not a lurker.

antonia, hi honey!

anne, well thanks for reading and for saying hi.

hi kj, i read your blog too but don't comment too often because it's all cool art stuff about which i know little or nothing. But that's why i like it.

hi sarah, it's nice to hear from you! I still read your blog, but i sort of stopped commenting too. I guess it felt like you were (are) getting ready to quit blogging. Or maybe i just suck too.

caro, not ridiculous, that's a nice thing to hear actually.

emily, hi and thanks for your comment. It's nice to know who's out there.

hi marsha, always nice to hear from a regular. There were some deer prints too.

princess, after your last few days at work, i don't blame you.

anon, why hello there. Is that you peeking out from under that bush?

suebob, you do comment some, as do i on your blog(s) I'm using Google Reader now, it makes it much easier to keep up on lots of blogs. Although you do not have a feed for it so i have to check you by hand. But that's ok, you're worth it.

jen, i like your big mouth. *wiggles eyebrows*

bluesmama, welcome. I just hope it wasn't the raccoon i saw as roadkill yesterday. Boo hoo. :(

sanjay, maybe you should start one!

mrs.Chili, that's ok, i don't feel like i need a restraining order or anything. :)

Lynnea said...

I'm a regular you know, but I've been bad about getting comments up in the last few weeks. Spotty, you could say. I missed yesterday and wanted to say that those are things I have learned too, and they are the things that I feel most deeply about my marriage, good and bad.

meno said...

v, sending snow right away! I think you have commented before, so not technically a lurker.

greent, but i know you're out there! So sorry about the snow at your end. We so rarely get any that it's a real treat. Although people grumble about it mightily.

tracy, word verification is a bitch, i know. I toy with the idea of removing it again, but then i remember the f^%$@@! comment spam. But it is nice to hear from you.

bob, i have never seen that movie, can you believe it? I think i'll add it to my netflix list.

ac, too bad about the lack of footprint substrate! It's extremely pretty. Thanks for saying hi.

biodtl, no need for defense. But thanks for "outing" yourself. Hi back!

anon, yeah, i used to feel like i had to have something brilliant and witty and insightful to say, but i gave up on that. Good thing too, or i would remain forever silent.

josephine, how nice to hear from you! i hope all is well. I miss your words. let me know if you decide to start up again.

sari, ooooh, a tag. I'll be over later to check it out.

gretchen, well then, thanks for reading and commenting today.

kelly, house wobegon is one of those family sayings that sometimes puzzles other people. Glad you liked it.

mamap, we all need you to keep us in line. I am beautiful, powerful and smart! (A little affirmation for the day.) Hey! Did you just call yourself a freak?

julie, ironically, i sometimes have a harder time commenting on a post that has really moved me. Usually all i can think of is "wow, that was lovely," or some such. Thanks for the kind words.

thailandchani said...

I don't always comment but generally will leave a little something. From what I've been told, most people do not comment. I wish more people would feel free to do so without feeling like they have to be brilliant or witty. It's just a way to say "I heard you".

Peace,

~Chani

Hi there!

I've been reading your blog for about a month now and I actually can't recall if I've ever commented before, so I'll comment now, as the situation calls for it ;)

Now, if only I could get my own comments fixed...

Mother of Invention said...

Well, you sure brought the readers out of the closet today! WOW! A nice affirmation for you about all the great posts you have! Because they are!

Lucky you having snow!

Anonymous said...

Guilty! I read many blogs, and never comment. I just enjoy the reading.

Melessa Gregg said...

I'm here and since I already comment, I guess I'm not de-lurking.

Tink said...

I'd confess to stalking... er lurking, but you already know I'm here. Love the snow picture. Sometimes (although RARELY) I miss snow.

meno said...

miss maggie, i think that anyone who has been married for a while and had been through some rough times could say all those things too. I'm spotty too, but i think it's from menopause. Ha ha, i think i'm funny.

chani, and i appreciate your leaving a little something too, even if it's just a laugh.

colleen, is blogger giving you a bad time? Thanks for saying hi.

MOI, thank you, i'm blushing now. The world is all pretty and white and sparkly today.

anon, and that's cool, but i can tell you that most bloggers really appreciate comments too.

melessa, yes, i know you are here, and i appreciate it too.

tink, no need to confess here. I know you comment. And thanks for that.

Tracy Helgeson said...

Meno, Don't remove it! I know all about the spam! I just wish blogger would fix the dang thing so all of us regular non-spammer folks can leave a comment without going nuts. Blogger doesn't always accept my password either-jerks.

There-two comments in one day.

urban-urchin said...

How the HELL is it snowing there and yet it's been 68 here in the so-called cold New York Winter?!!!

You already know I love you.

Anonymous said...

Another lurker de-lurked. Although I often stop by your blog I don't comment because how many times can you say, "Wow, I like your blog and am glad to see someone has some of the same thoughts."? Will once do?

peevish said...

Not a lurker.

I just wanted to say that my kids have really enjoyed the photo. Yesterday, they kept running in here to say "show us the tracks!" and then running out again.

xo,
Lisa

Anonymous said...

Not a lurker, just a newbie.

Love the footprints in the snow.

Sonia Wetzel Photography said...

Hi! As you know, I'm here daily. You'll get sick of my comments. :-)

Anonymous said...

Everyone keeps posting about snow, and I keep getting none. :-(

Not a lurker, but see? There are tons. Some folks make a career out of it. Ergo, the need for a "national" holiday to bring them out of the dark! Ha!

Mignon said...

Hi. Cool pictures - looks like the moon.

meno said...

tracy, this is SO my lucky day! I don't think google gives a hairy rat about blogger to tell you the truth.

urban-urchin, it's crazy, and it's STILL snowing here. WTF??? I love you too!

sally forth, love your screen name. Thanks for commenting. And once is enough for me.

lisa, that is so cute! I am glad they liked it.

ortizzle, There were deer and many varieties of bird tracks too!

ddm, glad to have you and your comments.

jennifer, sorry about stealing your snow, but i am really enjoying it. I guess i just have too much to say to be a lurker myself.

mignon, thanks, and it's about that cold too.

I've never lurked on your blog, this is mt first visit! There are at least two people who visit my blog regularly and never comment, though one of them tells me personally what she likes on my blog. Some people maybe can't think of anything to say, or don't want to get involved in the online conversation or maybe don't trust the security level on blogs....

Bobealia... said...

I think more people lurk than you think. Even when I was busy busy I would lurk just 'cause I grabbed a read when I could but didn't have time to comment.

Jhianna said...

I can't honestly remember if I've ever commented or not. I'm a lurker by nature, but I've been trying to comment when I think of something to say. So hi!

meno said...

crafty, well thanks for stopping by and for the comment, and welcome.

hi bo, it is easier to read without commenting. Sometimes when i am in a hurry and blogger eats my comment i just give the hell up.

jhianna, i don't remember seeing your name. Hi back!
