The Mister's birthday was this past week. Around our house we refer not to a single day of celebration, but to "The Birthday, Day X," or "The Birthday Festival" in stentorian tones.
So tonight is The Birthday, Day 6. The Mister and i are heading off to downtown Seattle to spend a night of debauchery in a hotel down at the Market. We will be dining at a fancy restaurant and paying far too much for a bottle of wine and a meal.
It'll be great.
We are leaving Em home alone for the first time ever overnight. She declared that she was fine with that, and so am i. Hope the house is still standing when we return.
Cheers!

Oh, what a huge milestone for Em! I remember when my family all left on a weeklong trip and I stayed home because I had exams. It was exhilirating and lonely and grown up and liberating all at once...
Oh, and you guys have fun too...
Sounds like a fabulous night out! I'm envious!
Have a nice time tonight, hope you get lucky.
HEY! Sounds like I'm not the only one gettin' some today! Happy birthday, indeed!!
debauchery woot! oh and you two have a great time too.
ok I'm just joking, Em is way too mature for any of that.
If you come home to a VERY clean house Em had a party. At least that's what my mom said after leaving me alone for a weekend. The house was always cleaner when she got back than when she left.. Then she started taking longer and more frequent trips. huh.
Oh and debauchery is one of my favorite words. It should read TTQ of Debauchery.
So if it were me you were leaving alone, hide all your wine and booze so that they at least have to go through the hassel of finding/buying their own.
Merry Happy Cheery Birthday Week!
Hope you have a wonderful time, at least twice;)
Happy Bday to Mister!!
Uh thanks, but my fan left for the airport this morning. He even had smile on his face and it wasn't because he was leaving me to finish staining the deck.....Oh wait a minute, dammit dammit dammit!
Have a lovely evening...not that there is any doubt ;)
Have fun!!
ah, expensive wine and cheap sex...what a combination. er, well, I reckon I'm assumin that y'all have the cheap, tawdry, dirty sex that we specialize in here at casa de hockett.
I like the idea of stretching the birthday celebration out. it's horrid that we're supposed to quit being excited about birthdays after the 21st, or is it the 5th one? this way you can be all nonchalant about it, and still be secretly thrilled.
You guys need to visit Babeland. It's on Pike just north of downtown. Very fun place. Have a wonderful evening :)
Em is cool. Great preparation for her near future!
ooooh have a wonderful time! And tell us all about it, well, the rated G parts at least :) I hope all goes well for your Em. I'm sure it will.
Have a great time.
Pike Place Market...oh, the memories. Bring me some of those huge peaches, will you?
Hope you have a wonderful time.
I hope the night is wonderful, and the rest of his stentorian Birthday Month, too.
Have a wonderful time, love. Em will be fine
Yay debauchery! And yay for Em! Staying alone in my parent's home is one of my fondest memories!
Here's to debauchery! (And, yes, the only way to truly enjoy it is by paying far too much for a meal and a bottle of wine.) (And in this country, you don't even have to go fancy to pay too much for a bottle of wine, you just have to consume it in any restaurant.)
daisy, i think she missed us, a little!
vanessa, it was. And that you are envious makes it even better.
furious, i'm lucky, you're lucky, we're ALL LUCKY! (Are you old enough to quote Rocky Horror? Clearly i am.)
mrs. chili, it's a good day. :)
maggie, maybe someday she can debauch too.
ttq, nope, no cleaner than when we left. Damn.
deb, *smug smile*
alli, i'll tell him you said so.
ms. chica, that man is so smart. No way would i stain the deck. YOu are a trouper.
marsha, we did.
holly, what's not to like? I thought you were supposed to stop being excited after the 100th one.
schmoopie, haven't been there for a few years. Might need to go buy my own cone.
he eigler, we went shopping and then to dinner and then it was night night time. That's all i'm sayin'
suebob, thanks, we did.
mrs.4444, peaches are not in season, but there are gorgeous asparagus and artichokes everywhere.
hearts, aren't words fun?
flutter, she is fine. I knew she would be. She's a great kid.
franki, i also yay for debauchery. I was alone a lot at my parent's house too, and it was fun.
ortizzle, that is so true about the wine. You get to pay at LEAST twice as much as retail. But restaurants have to make $ somehow.
happy birthday, Mister. And Em, the aunties are watching!
you should get at least a percent on each fan purchase you refer....
Happy Birthday Debauchery!
and I'm betting that Em did just fine.
You already told ttq the answer to my question- I thought maybe Em had cleaned up the house as a nice surprise while you were away having fun. One can always hope, right?
I didn't realize that there were any hotels at the Market. Whenever I go away I am more interested in getting away from downtown Seattle rather than going to it! But we did a few years ago & saw The Wizard of Oz at the Fifth Avenue Theater. It was a fun night, even though I had to go into Seattle.
Hope it works out better than it did for us. You may not find out til the statute of limitations runs out in 7 years!
Have a fabulous time. And Happy Birthday to the Mister!
harrumph. It's all over by the time I check in. Always happens.
Good for you. Good for Em.
what de said. btw, i was hiding in a bathroom waiting out a tornado warning with my 86 year old grandmother. how cool is that?
Hope you had a great time!
do her proud Em.
a few questions to deduce whether Em went all "Risky Business" while you were gone: were there vaccum marks on the carpet? was the house totally spotless but there was nary a roll of TP to be found? my kids are screwed (I hope) in terms of hiding the parties from me. Hope you guys had a great time!
Glad everyone seems to have survived, and actually enjoyed themselves!
FWIW (even though it's a little late) my parents left my brother and I alone for a whole weekend, and were very worried. We stayed up a WHOLE HOUR late to watch Nick and Nite, and thought we were very rebellious.
I was so lame. But at least my mother had nothing to worry about.
Happy Bday Mister! Have a blast Em! Don't worry Meno!!! :) Hope it all went well and you had a great time too!
The first time ever? I guess I'm a little shocked by that. You're messing with us aren't you? How was the bed?
That's some kind of birthday celebration! In fact, it's exactly what I would wish for.
I'm not a trouper. I'm a desperate mover ;)
So do we get to hear the details of your night of debauchery? Do anything fun with swings or fresh produce?
I think Mona is so great.
jen, heh, like that would stop her.
pat, they are only $3.25. so i don't think i'll be getting rich off them.
dianne, she did, and thank you.
dick, I LOVE going into Seattle. We stayed at The Inn at The Market. It's right there! Alas, the house was not clean when i returned, but just as dirty as i had left it.
luckyzmom, i have time, i can wait!
de, what? You have a life? What's up with that?
liv, that is pretty cool. All is well i hope.
sari, we did. :)
crazymumma, she was fine and behaved. A better child than i was.
u-u, i know all the tricks, and there was no party. What's wrong with her?
princess, my parents left my brother and i home alone when we were 12 and 14. We fought the whole time.
say it, i really wasn't worried.
egan, the bed was fine, and so was the chair.
fiwa, you'll have to try it!
ms. chica, you must be desperate to bew staining the deck.
mona, of course the vegetables were fresh, we were at the Market!
egan, she is.
