Gossip hound

I love gossip.

Okay, i'm exaggerating for maximum shock value.

I like gossip.

It's not cool to admit that, but damned if i don't think most people do like it.

The reason this comes up is that i went to lunch with someone today who told me that she does not gossip, and then spent the whole time talking about other people, which, i think, is what gossip is.

The failure to examine our own behavior is the definition of denial. I hate denial.

Yeah, I'd be looking for the exit.

People like that you can be sure talk about you when you're not around. That's what creeps me out about people who incessantly gossip and deny it. Either they are really good at fooling themselves into believing they are not gossiping or they think no one really notices. Riiight.

I, too, hate denial, but I think, to a certain extent, we ALL love gossip. Isn't that kind of the definition of blogging, after all?

Heh...reminds me of the lady in the parking lot booth last night who insisted on talkingandtalkingandtalking to me and holding up traffic behind me. What was she talking about? The fact that her boss said she talked too much. Yeah, that was a good laugh.

You are nicer than me, I might have pointed it out to her. Maybe that is why I don't often get invited to lunch.

was the meal good?

I think we had lunch with the same gal. Hummmmmm

Lets ALL do lunch!... Bring our laptops and gossip on our blogs about each other!

I'll take pics so no one can deny a THING~

Sounds a lot like hypocrisy. Which I hate. The problem with hating hypocrisy is that it's such an insidious trait, so hard to avoid in one's self, and it's so easy to get on a high horse and turn into a hypocritical bastard about not being a hypocrite.

I've been around people like that. Their lack of restraint, make me aware of how little I have to say in their company. But in their defense they weren't gossips, they were public information officers...of the unpaid variety.

Exactly what gossip is and I'd say she's a hypocrite!

brad, i need to find a way to ease out of this one.

maggie, if someone tells me they never gossip, i know they are a REAL gossip.

mrs. chili, ha! i though the definition of blogging was narcissism, you know, a chance to talk about ourselves. :)

mona, that's just wonderful. Talk about a lack of self awareness.

marsha, next time, if their is a next time, i will.

de, well, she paid, so that was good.

tt, she must have a teleporter!

cheesy, that would be a blast!

mamalujo, i would be leery of anyone who told me that they are never hypocritical, including me.

patches, i did become verrrry quiet.

mother hen, who doesn't???

mignon, my post is a case in point.

caro, pour me one too!

deb, you know, once i calmed down, it was funny.

furious, i hate it when that happens.

vanessa, yeah, and annoying too.

Denial ...that's a river in Egypt right?

Oh and men gossip waaaaaaaaaaayyyy more than the women I know.

One of the best things to happen to me of late is to have dropped out of a relationship with a woman who gossiped and backstabbed everyone she encounters, including her family. I finally witnessed that the facts-- If she's doing it to everyone else she must be doing it to me.

QT said...

But wait - I thought gossip was when you talked shit about someone? I mean, if all you are doing is passing on facts like "Yup, Dawn had her baby last week" is that considered gossip?

jen said...

denial is hilarious. we all do it and when we get caught its freaking hilarious.

QT - i think gossip is the shit talking, not the facts, right?

Scott from Oregon said...

Gossip is when you say "Dawn had her baby last week, oh my God! The poor creature's got a nose like Woody Allen and a tiny tiny penis. That poor baby's gonna suffer because I think Dawn fooled around with that guy who checks her meters and spun her dials..."

luckyzmom said...

LOL at Scott. That is what I was getting ready to say, but, not in those exact words. Unsubstantiated and or malicious gossip is a fine line that is easily crossed.

It is hard to recognize when you are in denial, but easy for others to.

I always thought, for it to be gossip, it had to be bad stuff, joy in another's misfortune kind of stuff.

I love gossip. "Discussion of humanity by lovers of the same."

I assume I'm a hyprocrit, in one way or another.

And I LIVE in denial. It's lovely here this time of year.

meno said...

ttq, really? I guess i don't hang out with enough men.

lu, we always think we are the exception for the gossiper, but we never are.

qt, maybe it is if Dawn wanted to tell the news herself. I don't really know.

jen, i amuse myself greatly when i find myself doing it. Takes me down a peg.

scott, OMG! Thanks for the real scoop on Dawn. I had no idea!

luckyzmom, it's easy to gossip subltly, such that you can deny when caught.

imez, we'll have to get together and gossip sometime.

I was just having a conversation with someone who is pretty much the WORST listener EVER and she gave me a good laugh when she told me she was a great listener.

That will keep me going for a good long while, it's just so completely WRONG that it's funny.

No, my dear, you DISLIKE denial since you merely like gossip but do not love it.

So, dish. Did she say anything really good?
