I amuse myself

My dad got a k!ndle for my mom for Christmas, and since i already had one i was appointed to help her figure out how to use it. This was a smart move on my dad's part, as she tends to resent his interference and him telling her what to do, and since she wants me to like her, she will listen to what i say.

Right after Christmas i got her device all set up and registered to their Amaz0n account, and we bought a few books for her. It was painful, but we muddled through.

So far so good.

At the last family cluster fuck, she showed me her k!ndle and asked me to fix it as she couldn't seem to buy any new books. Turns out she had somehow managed to deregister it.

(As an aside, why is it that older people, at least the ones i know, all have ONE e-mail account, and ONE Amaz0n account between them?)

I got that all figured out and fixed it up and presented it back to her.

What i didn't tell her was that i purchased her an extra (free) book called "Male Call - Hot Zones Book 1" that will appear on her device the next time she turns it on. My niece and nephew (who were looking over my shoulder) and i all thought this was hilarious.

Today i signed back into their Amaz0n account and gave the book a 5 star rating.

Oh the LOLs!

They will NEVER figure out why they are suddenly inundated with recommendations from Amaz0n for trashy light porn novels.

Awesome!

re: the ONE account thing - it creeps me out. And I know plenty of younger folks who share an email address AND a Facebook account. Co-dependent, much?

Wicked indeed. They might even get a taste for light porn....

Jenny and I have separate accounts for everything (except money). But then she's an ardent feminist and wouldn't want me cramping her style.

Gotta love nasty! I hope they get good use out of the video recorder and tripod you will be getting them next.

You are evil!)

But, that means I have to do it all my ownself now:( I was a single woman fighting for my own account way back when JC Penney and many others didn't allow it. Then when I married I declared myself to be my own person and continued to fight for my own accounts. Now I'm just too damn lazy to take the time.

I buy books for my Sony Reader mostly at Fictionwise and the Sony Store and know they have a section like that, but it isn't called Light Porn but Erotic Romance. Aren't most of those romance novels that are so popular really a form of light porn?

As to older couples sharing log on sites, etc. I think it is because many of them are a bit reluctant to go there at all. Pat & I have our own and for good reason- she buys things she likes and I buy things I like and they are often not available at the same places.

oh, it's been too long since I stopped by. you ARE an evil lil' thang! And then, to go on and read your other recent posts....omg. Family angst. Is there a tell-all book in there somewhere?!

nick, i can never sign on to their account again because i would be scarred if i discovered that they DID like soft porn!

AJ, i think i just threw up in my mouth a little.

luckyzmom, not even your own e-mail? I'm not talking about bank accounts here.

flutter, why thank you, coming from you i appreciate that.

dick, see what a young guy you are? This proves it.

hearts, hmmm, maybe some bedroom toys.....

tara, i can't really think that my family is really any different from any one else's. Or any worse. We all could write that book.

If passive-aggressive is funny enough, creative enough, and the person deserves it enough, passive aggressive is no longer passive aggressive.

it is possible you have un-wittingly replaced the spark in you parents marriage. don't think about it to much or the image will permanently sear your retina.

I wish I had thought of this

OMG, that is too funny! I would love to be a fly on the wall when they fuss with each other over who which one of them is responsible for this obvious error. or...would they possibly think the other is dabbling on the side? either way, great stuff :)

I'd love to see a post on Kindles vs. other books. Do you like it?

I love it! I would do that kind of thing to my mom, too, but she never reads.
