Just for fun

A meme, about food, from peevish. (I am peeved that she thought of such a great name before i did.) You are to take each letter from your blogging name and give a little food fact to go with it.

Thank dog my name is short, although i am not. Heavens forfend if she had said give a food fact for each inch of your height. We'd be here forever.

M: Mother's Milk. (See previous post in case you need an illustration.) Upon being born, Em took one look at these babies and she knew right what to do. It's a good thing because i sure as hell was puzzled. All i was left to do was to figure out how to hold her while she ate. I only breastfed Em for 3 months. Then i had to return to the clean room at school and fuss with weird chemicals in order to make bi-polar junction transistors. I was sad. I missed it.

Oh, and mochi, the kind with ice cream inside.

E: I make great baba ghanoush (wonder what spell check will make of that?) Baba ghanoush is made from Eggplant. A friend taught me to make it. We always set off the smoke alarms until we got a grill upon which to abuse the eggplant. I also love the word "aubergine." Say it a few times. Doesn't that feel good? Aubergine is French, or somesuch language, for eggplant.

Oh and edamame.

N: noodles, udon or soba. Not those nasty pre-cooked packages, but the real stuff from the Asian grocery store. Cook. rinse in cold water, add a little soy sauce, rice vinegar and chopped little green onions, stir, and shovel into your mouth using the chopsticks as a back hoe. Slurping is not optional.

O: oysters, plucked fresh from the slimy, barnacled rocks of Puget sound, opened without slicing my hand, with a little fresh lemon and cocktail sauce that i have carried down to the beach with me. I am alone. It is low tide, so the airs smells like....low tide. I hear seagulls. Mmmm, perfect.

Please do this meme if you would like. I'm too lazy to tag people because it means linking, which means typing, at which i suck, unlike run-on sentences, at which i excel.

Hell - NaBloPoMo is coming - I'll do this meme...

Its funny, low tide has a definite indescribable smell. But once you've smelled it, you just know.

I loved breastfeeding. I breastfed my oldest for 10 months. But the twins I was only able to breastfeed for about two months, maybe it was three. I couldn't get enough time to make myself enough nutrients to keep up. It was so draining. Looking back, I should have asked for more help.

Mmm eggplant.

Mine is far too long, too, for this. :) Imagine having to do it for another blog name I know... Every Day as Lyric Poetry. LOL

Now that would really take a long time!

Peace,

I love me some low tide smell and noodles! So I'm copying your oh-so-complicated recipe for noodles to my hard drive now...

Noodles, you're just taunting me. That isn't very nice. I wonder how many times this will pop up when NaBloPoMo gets rolling.

Now I realize I'm starving and will have to go make some noodles....

That really made me wish I had never developed an allergy to oysters. (Although you forgot the part where a totally gorgeous hunk comes sauntering up to you with a bottle of icy champagne.)

champagne with oysters? naw. BEER. Oysters go on soda crackers with hot sauce with an ice-cold beer. I used to go with my grandad down by the river to shuck and eat oysters. we'd toss the shells on the ground - they'd "paved" the area with shells anyway. not beer though - ice-cold coke in a bottle.

I've got a copy of tampopo around here somewhere. I've always wanted to try authentic noodles.

Oh man. I just had some red bean mochi the other night, and edamame (Nature's own crack) and I have homemade baba ghanoush in the fridge. I can't find a good source for good noodles out here. And oysters fresh from the shell...wow... *Scribbling in my 'Things I Want to Do When Next I Find Myself In the Paradise That Is the Pacific Northwest' notebook*

I do believe you would enjoy a trip to Japan.

So...I learn yet another bit of important information by reading someone's blog. When at the optometrist's office this week, I discovered that the color of my current eyeglasses frames is called "aubergine." Now I know why!!!

Yum. Makes me wish I was more into food, besides just for postponing hunger.

Thanks for making me chuckle this morning.

And again with the beach, you're teasing me. You know there is no beach near me, no lovely salt water, no tide. Do have seagulls though.

I hate eggplant, but love the word aubergine. I'm sayin it's a color.

Mmm! I'll take one order of oysters, one order of soba noodles, and a side of edamame, please. And some Ali Baba to go-a.

Thanks for playing!

I KNEW I went with a short name for a reason! I'll get right on it.
BTW you excel at many, many things :)

Now I'm hungry. I love eggplant (the food, not necessarily the color). I love baba ghanoush and eggplant parmasean. I love edamames, and noodles (any kind). I think I better go eat some dinner now.

Aubergine...yes, I like it, and Auberge.

Oysters are my all time favorite food, Sydney rock oysters and blonde beer...it is simply orgasmic.

Plain and simple, I need to head to Sydney...bye mate.

Baba ghanoush is an excellent idea. Another eggplant fact: there actually is no German word for it so we call it Aubergine too.

(And I can't be supposed to do this one. 17 facts about food? Well, okay, when you're flutter... No, my posts are too long as they are.)

Schmoopie said...

Mmm...noodles with a bit of soy sauce. One of my favorites.

mmmmm, eggplant, noodles. mmmmm. Ice cream. But, excuse me, gag, gack, bahgag, oysters. blah. Now, the beach...nice.

I'm not EVEN gonna try mine. *s* My dad, back in his heyday had a little Cajun man who was a good friend. I can't spell his name because I haven't the foggiest idea how, but anyhoo, deeply Cajun.

Said Cajun friend would drive up from Houma, LA (my birth town, about five feet from the Gulf of Mexico) about three times a year, bringing with him a giant burlap sack of fresh oysters. I can still see him and my father sitting on upside down five gallon buckets in the garage, shucking oysters. I think about one in three would make it into the big buckets to be kept for later...the rest? Right down the gullet.

Oh, and better late than never--brava for breastfeeding wee Em back in the day, and double brava for posting the pic. It's as natural as drawing breath, and about as obscene as a bird in flight.

I can not attempt this. Way too long. i want your baba ganoush recipe.

thanks !

and can I come and visit and eat oysters with you? I love raw oysters.

Yummy - when's dinner?? I love noodles too but they make my stomach huge. Very sad state of things, I know.

Thanks for stopping by my blog - I love your company! :)

Mmm... this is making me hungry for noodles. Not that I need any excuse to eat starch of any kind.

I thought I was the only one who gets flustered with all the meme linking. Incidentally, the term "run-on sentence" has nothing to do with the length of the sentence per se. A run-on sentence can be very brief. Just thought I'd chime in with a free grammar lesson.

Princess in Galoshes said...

Oooh, I knew I liked you! I love oysters, too. Although I've never plucked them myself, but now I find myself needing the experience. Can I come visit?

Also, I can't do the meme. I fear it would start, "Pinot, Rioja, Ice Wine, Neuf du Papes, Cabernet...." and go downhill from there.

Are you kidding? Do you know how many letters my blog name entails? Much too verbose, even for me, but I enjoyed yours, especially Japanese mochi in mango or green tea flavor.
