"Everyone has the right to be an ass." *

I survived, although i was a zombie yesterday. A few things i learned:

-65 teenagers make ONE HELL OF A LOT OF NOISE!
-teenagers descend like a swarm of locusts on any free food, no matter how loathsome.
-teenage boys like to punch and kick one another.
-teenage girls like to groom one another.
-some traditions are stupid.
-it was smart of me to take earplugs.

It's some kind of traditon for the seniors at Em's school to have some kind of overnight event right after the graduation ceremony. But in reality, the kids were DONE, FINISHED, KAPUT, OVER, TOAST by 3:30 am, but we all had to stay at the last place until 5:00 am. Then we trudged on to the buses and rode in bleary-eyed silence back to the school. It would have been way better to have had the event end at 3:00 or so. But hey, i didn't do the planning.

The Mister and Em and i got home at 6:00 am. Ugh. Yesterday was spent waiting until it was late enough to go to bed.

*************************************************************

I watched Harold and Maude with Em today. It is so much fun to watch movies that i have loved with her and have her love them too.

Hum, never heard of that movie but a soundtrack by Cat Stevens...is it possible I've never heard of it? I can imagine that silence on that ride back on the bus, a new day arriving on the back of all your fatigue. good feelings even if you were zombified...cool that you got to be there.

Two Fine People was our wedding song.

Yeah, I know you're not cynical about Em. That's why I like when you do Em stuff. She's your fluffy kitty belly.

Sixty-five of 'em? You're a braver woman than I, meno. I'd have killed the lot of 'em.

Harold and Maude? brilliant.

You nailed High School behaviors.

You know youre cool when you can get teenager to admit to liking something you do.

I admire your intestinal fortitude.

And give thanks that those days are FAR behind me!

ttq, it was sweet, she cuddled with me to watch.

womaninawindow, never? I hardly know what to say. It might not be to your taste, but it is one of my favorites.

furious, it was an incredible plesure to see it again, and to share it with my daughter. Someday you will be sharing it with yours.

de, a great wedding song. I knew i liked you for a reason.

irrelephant, to tell you the truth, the kids were almost all pretty great. I was surprised.

scott, i don't see it as a movie about suicide.

pat, they were done at three, but we had to stay there until five.

ms. chica, I hope the reward will include alcohol.

crazymumma, i bathe daily, so i am NOT crusty.

lu, you would be the expert on the high schoolers. :)

jen, i haven't seen it in years. God it was beautiful! There's a thousand things to be, you know that there are.

flutter, yep, 65. 64 at the end of the night because one boy went home early in tears because he was exhausted.

jennifer, intestinal fortitude or lack of brains????

I've seen had the same observations at our middle school and high school events. Look at it this way; you've just created some great kharma for yourself :)

Your congressional medal of honor is in the mail.
Seriously, they award them that way, sometimes.

I just spent a week with two teenaged girls and thought I would lose my mind, you are my hero.

I had faith in you from the get-go.

Harold & Maude is one of my faves, too. I may need to revisit it ~ it has been over a decade since my last viewing.

You deserve a spa treatment for that. Holy cow - that was a lot of kids. You weren't the only ones, were you?

Harold and Maude is one of my all time FAVORITE movies. That reminds me, I haven't watched it in awhile. I'll have to pull it back out sometime soon.

You are one very courageous woman to have taken on such a large gaggle of teens and to have survived the ordeal. Bravo!

Oh...and "Harold and Maude" brings back such wonderful memories of a long ago time for me...Sigh.

mrs. 4444, i hope so, i could use it.

maggie, i'll keep my eye out for it. :)

marsha, a whole week? You are MY hero!

qt, i am still smiling from seeing it again.

fiwa, no, there were 4 other adults there too. But they all worked in shifts.

joan, thanks for the kudos. I'm going to make it a goal in my life to never stay up all night again.

"teenage girls like to groom each other"

yes. they do.

1. You are a brave woman.

2. H & M is so great, and has so many wonderful, quotable lines. Like when Maude hurls Harold's gift into the lake and says "Now we'll always know where it is!". God, Ruth Gordon was a treasure.

You survived!

But as for your sarcasm, well I'll need to read another post to know for sure.

Hey Meno - Thanks for the right 'on' comment today.

You wouldn't read about it, I don't think H&M has ever been released in Oz???

Thx for the tipoff, I will try and get my mitts on it, sounds really interesting and quirky and I love Cat Stevens music, is obviously some kind of classic movie and good old Australia doesn't get in the country, probably was around the friggin' time of Alvin Purple rides again, seriously Jesus.

Harold and Maude? That's why I loves you, Meno! "If you wanna sing out, sing out...."

You have nerves of steel, woman, to brave those giddy graduates...STEEL. And balls to match. I mean that in a GOOD way.

Princess in Galoshes said...

I love Harold and Maude. And I love it that Em likes it, too. My high school friends were... less open-minded.

meno said...

liv, like monkeys in the zoo.

peevish, 1) or an idiot. 2) We use that line in our family all the time.

diane, i'm sure that it did not survive.

brad, yer welcome. Ain't it always easier to see someone else's situation?

pam, WHAT? No Harold and Maude? that's criminal. It's at least 20 years old. I hope you like it.

mona, I'm singing out! Me and my steel balls.

princess, did you like "Heathers" too? I liked that one until the end.
