Skinny bitch

Em discovers the perfect food. (Gratuitous photo.)

Guess WHAT??

I have lost 6 pounds in the last three days!

Yep, thanks to the stomach flu, which is a lot like the prep for a colonoscopy, except with vomiting thrown in for added fun. Wheee!

The whole family is down, first me, then Em, now The Mister. Em, because of her extreme youth, is all better. I am much better, and The Mister is on the downslide. Poor man.

The flu experience reminded me of something that happened in the Chicago airport last week. I was positioned before a food purveyor, perusing the possibilities, when some woman says, "Excuse me, i was here first! You skinny people think you are so much better than the rest of us."

I looked around, blinking, to see to whom this hostility was directed. It was me. (Or was it i?)

"Oh," i say, flustered, "i'm sorry. I was just looking, please go ahead."

I think she might have been chagrined to realize that i had not cut her off, that i was just pondering, but no apology was forthcoming.

And while i might occasionally think i am better than some people, i do not think i am better than everyone.

Whenever people tell me what i think, i know that they are really telling me what they think. I'm sorry she feels so badly about herself.

this is blowing my whole "girls don't poop" theory out of the water

Heh - if someone had said that to me, I would have been so happy about the skinny part that I would have bought her food for her ;)

Some peoples kids! I tell ya, RUDE!

That pretzel would almost be worth the trip to O'Hare! - One of those "Why didn't I think of that" ideas. Glad your feeling better. Have pity on the Mr. we guys don't make good patients.

You're so gracious! I wouldn't be so nice to her. I would say mean things to her.

It's good to see you home safely with your daughter.

Definitely rude, but at least she called you skinny!

That lady gets around! I met her in Florida. She accused me of cutting off her mullet-headed boy at the gift shop. It was rather indirect and almost went over my head: she was bitching loudly to her companions and I was, "d'oh. You talkin' about me??" Now if she'd said "skinny people," I would have caught on right away.

Yes, it does say a lot about her feelings about herself, but you know, fat people with attitude are just as unpleasant as their thin counterparts. (I'm making an assumption since she was leading with the 'skinny' remark.)

Rude is rude. People who hate themselves should get help and not take it out on others.

Cute picture of Em. Glad some of you are feeling better.

furious, yep. blowing and water is pretty much correct.

gina, I was too surprised to react well. of course, i have thought of 18 clever things to say since.

brad, i know! there was no call for that remark. The Mister is pretty much hiding in his cave.

mother hen, i should have, but i missed my chance.

steph, guess it wouldn't have had the same impact if she's called me fat.

de, hah! Did you at least offer to get her kid a decent haircut?

hearts, yes, she was an ample woman. I would have suggested counseling of i'd thought of it.

Defensive people like that give me a headache. Always looking for a slight. Why not give the benefit, as they say, and be polite?

Maybe if she'd been inconsiderate enough to rant longer it would have felt a whole lot better:

You SKINNY people are just so...and another thing, SKINNY woman, how dare you...maybe you SKINNY people don't mean to be so...but you could at least try...damn SKINNY people!

--see what I mean? ego stroking ego stroking =)

What a weirdo! People get so bent out of shape about the weirdest things - but I do like your attitude. And hey, did she think skinny was an insult??

Sorry to hear you've been down with the flu. I know how weak and woozy it makes you feel. Bakes potatoes and black tea - that's my remedy when you can start to keep stuff down.

chani, it's so much work to always be ferreting out any possible insult. Must be exhausting, which is why she was so grumpy.

maggie, that's why i was so puzzled that she was talking to ME. Skinny? Nope. I'm like mama bear, just about right!

melanie, THAT'S what i should have said to her, "You really need to get laid lady!"

fiwa, baked potatoes! Thanks, now i know what i'm making for dinner.

Is it a pizza pretzel? Kind of doesn't go well with the flu. Feel better!

I guess you were her affirmation for the day ;)

Bada Bing pretzels make me uneasy

It wasn't me, but, I do really need to get laid.

I'm glad you're feeling better and now, you're even skinnier!

I don't understand why so many people are so ready to just automatically be mean anymore.

It's not necessary.

I love your last paragraph. Really well put. You skinny people are so understanding.
