Guess which one is me...
Today i had my first experience in meeting people that i know but have never laid eyes upon. Nancy Dancehall is here in Seattle visiting with her friend Schmoopie. I met the two of them, along with Schmoopie's neighbor Laura (Lora, Lara, i didn't think to ask for a correct spelling, silly me!) for lunch at the Pikes Place Market.
After lunch, which we chattered through like several magpies, we wandered around the market and i bought a ginger snap the size of a small dinner plate (gotta have my after lunch cookie or i might start twitching.)
Today is one of those days in Seattle for which the word "glorious" was invented. We took the water taxi over to West Seattle and back just for the boat ride. More wandering, and then we fell, tired, into a local coffee shop where Schmoopie's husband, Stucco, arrived.
So, enough of the travelogue crap, "WHAT WAS IT LIKE?" you want to know.
I had a really great time. There was a level of comfort there because of knowing things about one another that made conversation easy and fun. I did not feel awkward even for a minute. Nancy has a lovely husky voice, kind of like Kathleen Turner, and Schmoopie has a gift for making people feel at ease. There was lots of laughing.
Nancy consults a fortune teller at the market. What did she say? I cannot reveal the secrets of The Fortune Teller!
I can't tell you how the others felt, that is their news, but it answered my question about whether this internets-getting-to-know-you gives you a true feel for personalities. It does. I hope to see them all again.
Just to give you an idea of my size, here is my hand holding a grande strawberry latte drink.
Now i am really hopped up for Blogher, where i will be rooming with Maggie and Missus. Chica.

dude. big hand, yo.
sounds glorious. a perfect day with terrific people.
i get all giggly every time you mention that you'll be at blogher. all squeamish like.
It sounds like you had a terrific time. I think it might be weird to meet people that up until now have been 'pen pals'. Evidently, that was not your experience.
What is this 'blogher' that people mention?
You have spoken about having large feet...but you can't fool me...I can see your hand in the first picture...and it does not look that large.
okay, so I now know that Nancy would make me weak in the knees just by talking at me (Kathleen Turner has the SEXIEST throaty voice - Jessica Rabbit!!! okay, I sound like a masher, I'm really not. In my defense, I am REALLY missing Laura!)
I've heard what it means when men have large hands. What does it mean when women do?
The one on the right. Right?
I have been blogging for almost four years and have not met anyone!! Maybe I don't try hard enough. maybe I give off the persona of being stand-offish. I don't know, but it is a great experience that I have read about over and over. You're so lucky.
So Schmoopie is pretty tall, too.
What a beautiful day. I'd trade mine, for sure.
Oh, how I wish, wish, WISH I were going to Blogher! I want to meet all these wonderful people, too! Sigh. I'm hoping for next year.
We had a glorious day here on the other side of the country in New England, too, and it looks as though today may be a repeat. Then thunderstorms will move through and we'll be lucky to get into the mid-sixties. Whatever. It's not winter anymore, and that's enough for me.
Far right... Am I correct??
You're the one in the middle. HA! Not! Funny, I've always imagined you with long hair. I don't know why. Wow, with you and Maggie and Jen and QT going. It's a little tempting, especially after reading this, to make the relatively short drive to Chicago for Blogher. Head spinning....need to pack.
I was waiting on pins and needles to hear how your day in went with Nancy and Schmoopie. I'm so glad you posted because my butt was really hurting from the all those pins and needles.
I was wondering if you would post any kind of pictures. This is so fun! A great encouragement for the coming out of hiding - so to speak. Blogher here we come!
I am now officially jealous of anyone who takes a vacation and has strawbery lattes.
I've met a coupla bloggers and due to meet about 3 more in the next few weeks. It is the coolest sensations, getting to know people from the inside out.
How tall are you lady?!
Missus Chica here. Patches is currently hiding under the bed to escape the wrath of the tile cleaners. Now when I read Nancy I'll hear that raspy voice in my head. Sweet.
Reading this makes me look forward to blogher even more. I don't know if the Mister will be able to stand my excitement for two and a half month wait.
It sounds like a fabulous time, had by all. And I agree with you. I've only met one blogger in person, but I've also spoken to three others off line, multiple times, and I have to say: they were just like they portray themselves in their blogs, only moreso. I hope to meet a few more one of these days.
But blogher? I just can't.
Alright alright. We get it. You guys have nice asses. But where's my front shots? ;)
jen, it will be mind-blowing and exhausting and amazing and strange and....
lynn, blogher is a convention of...women bloggers...in Chicago at the end of July. Although i take it that men bloggers are welcome and also attend in small numbers. You are smart, that's actually a sample sized cup, i was just having you all on!
bob, I kept asking her questions just so that i could hear her talk. So i understand. I don't know of any folklore about women's hands. :)
deb, right!
alphawoman, i think it's all about opportunity. I live near a large city that people do come and visit. i am lucky.
de, yes, schmoopie is pretty tall too. The day was spectacular, and today looks to be the same. Wish you were here to see it.
mrs.chili, i wish you were going too. I miss thunderstorms, all that drama.
toni, that's me!
lucia, i haven't had long hair for a long, long time, maybe 20 years. I just can't deal with it. Too lazy. I understand about blogher, is there anything i can say to get you to go?
maggie, i hope your pincushion recovers. :) This was like a littlr trial run for me. It was great.
ac, it wasn't very good really, it was just one of those little sample they go around and hand out. But vacation is not overrated.
lee, what a great way to put it, from the inside out. 6'1". :)
patches, bad kitty! I will hear her too. Ain't that great?
jennifer, i understand why you feel you can't, i think. It may be really overwhelming. It's definately something that is out of my comfort zone. But i'm going to do it anyway.
tink, you said i have a nice ass. I love you.
your a lean mean fighting machine meno. Like your sweater....
Pikes Place is fun. We were in Seattle my one and only time for my sil's wedding 6 years ago. The got married on a boat on the sound (the sound-is that correct?) It was beautiful and cold and I saw Bill Gate's dock (whee!).
I think it's great that you and Nancy spent the day together. It's amazing the friendships that come from blogging.
I've read about Blogher and now I'm thinking maybe Lynn and I should escape and go next year (assuming there is one in 2008).
Meno, I had such a great time meeting you! It is funny how people can get to know each other before they meet in person, so it does feel like you've known them for years. What a wonderfully perfect day it was!
Nice butts indeed. Proof positive that beauty exists in all shapes and sizes. Sounds like a great day! I hope one day to meet your butt in person too!
Ha. Now every time when somebody says, "But you don't really know her, you're only reading her blog." I can say, "But Meno said that you really get a feel for the person."
Someday I'll go to blogher too. For now maybe I'd better go looking for a blogger living on the same continent as me.
Anybody else from Europe?
u-u, $20 on sale at Eddie Bauer. If you saw Bill Gate's dock, you were on Lake Washington. (Fresh water vs. salt.) When you coming back?
joan, start planning now, i'll bet there will be one next year.
schmoopie, It was a perfect day. I hope Nancy wasn't too exhausted.
caro, we did run the gamut of size/shape. I hope we can meet someday too.
susanne, i think if someone wanted to create a personality that wasn't true, they could. But none of us are into that.
Meno! That sounds like it was a blast. And I know from experience how glorious and wonderful the PNW can be when the weather is working in your favor. Nothing can beat it.
BlogHer is going to be mind-blowing. I pictured you with longer hair, but like a bob length. YAY! I am excited to get to meet you!
I'm actually 6'1, so you know what giantesses these be. *wink*
I knew Meno immediately from her eyes.
I had a great time yesterday even though I gimped out. *s* You feel like an old friend, dear. It's amazing what these blogs can do.
I'll get around to my take on things as soon as I've caught up with my boyos.
Kathleen Turner, huh? lol! You should have heard me on steroids; I was Barry White.
You are so slim with long piano-playing fingers! It is very cool that you're meeting blogger friends. I don't imagine I ever will, being so far away up here in Canada. Boo!
qt, you are right, when it's nice here, there is no where prettier, when it's nice. Blogher will be mind-blowing, i am hoping to come out with my brain intact. I do so look forward to meeting you too.
nancy, glad you got home safely and that all is well. Take your time with the family.
moi, you are not the only one in Canada. There might be some nearby, or traveling nearby. I have nerve damage in my left hand, as well as no musical ability, so no piano for me. :)
Wonderous diversity. Eve in a sampling of her finest wares. Thank every god listening for the wonder that is Woman.
How cute is the back of your head?!
I've been hearing rumors about Blogher, so thanks for answering Lynn's question for me, too.
I think it would be great to actually meet some of my blog friends, but doubt I'll make this one as I have to go to both L.A. and New York in July, and I'm not sure how long I'll be in either place.
And that's the smallest cup I've ever seen. It's a Barbie doll cup. Nice try, though.
irrelephant, i am smiling. Thanks for that.
flutter, i was having a good hair day. :)
hearts, it's a sample cup, about and inch and a half high. You so smart!
Sounds like a great day!
Don't you love it when you finally meet someone and they're exactly as they should be??
Yaaaay! I get to have my first meet up with an internet friend this coming week in Seattle as well! I would really like to get together with you also Meno, perhaps this summer once my kiddo is out of school. I will most certainly drop you an e-mail and see if we can't work out a plan?
You know, the lady on the left is almost as tall as you are.
Is your daughter tall, too?
I live in Oregon, you know.
I'm just sayin'.
No body called me, is all.
