Way to go Ohio

Tomorrow morning, Em and i are flying to Ohio. I am accompanying her to kick off the beginning of her sophomore year of college.

Did you hear that? Her sophomore year of college!

How the hell did that happen?

This year, in much contrast to last year, i am just staying long enough to get her stuff from storage and drive it to her dorm room. I am becoming obsolete, or i will be as soon as she is old enough to rent a car.

Since i am really just going as the wallet and the chauffeur, i am only taking one small purse-sized bag. I am not even going to take my laptop. I am a little anxious about leaving my precious behind, but i think i am far enough along in my rehab to take this momentous step. It's kind of refreshing to reduce my stuff down to the essentials, which, by the way, include my Kindle, my camera and my ipod. I have my priorities in order.

Mixed feelings about Em being gone again. I realize that i view these little trips off to college as temporary things, just something that has to be endured before she comes home where she belongs. Anyone else recognize the denial in that? Yeah.

But it will be quieter and neater around here. Not a very good trade off for her company, but hey, i'm looking for any good i can in this.

I will be leaving The Mister at home alone for the weekend. Wonder what will happen in my absence? Will the cat get fed? Will the dishwasher get run? Stay tuned....

I'm taking my sophomore to school tomorrow too. It's kind of momentous and kind of old hat. He'll have a car this year and it's only three hours away so he can come home when he wants but I'm sure I won't see him until Thanksgiving. I just had the "it's time to get serious" chat with him today. Freshman year went okay but there's definitely room for some improvement.

I pray for your cat.

She'll be home for Christmas soon :)
I heard iPhone can take pictures and act as an iPod... maybe it's a kind of Kindle too? If that's true, now your essential is down to just an iPhone :) ah, I wish I have one fancy little phone.

liz, no car for my girl. That might imperil the entire state of Ohio.

flutter, i will pass on your prayers. I know he will appreciate your concern.

mother hen, she'll be home even sooner for Thanksgiving! Yay! I have a fancy phone, but not the iphone. I still must have my Kindle.

Fortunately cats are quite independent. The dishwasher not so much.

The washer will be fed and the cat run....

Safe journey!

The cat should be safe as long as he hides in the dishwasher. Surely there is enough food residue on the plates to last him for 48 hours.

As I'm sure I've mentioned before, I am still waiting for my three grown children to give up this adult nonsense and come home to Mommy. So yes, I recognize the denial of which you speak.

Have a wonderful trip and take lots of pictures!

I don't know, but with this economy...you may get your wish. Less than 20% pf 2009's graduates have jobs..And my Honor grad from Vanderbilt is NOT in that 20%.....and, well home is not all it's cracked up to be after 4 years...

good day! where does the time go? my baby girl started back to school today, 3 years in, and she still doesn't really know what she wants to do...the baby boy starts 6th grade tomorrow. ugh...if only the middle one would find himself and some sort of education, but the time is past for my say in his life...

the cat will survive, surely he's got some snacks hidden somewhere....

hearts, denial? me? You mean i will not get over it?

pat, your point is well taken. I should be careful what i wish for.
