This is the sunset view of Mount Baker out the window of my room at the B&B. And i woke up looking out at that view too. I am not worthy.

The B&B had a little guest book for people to leave comments. I wanted to write "Sorry about the blood on the sheets, the goat was a virgin," but my friend wouldn't let me. She's mean like that.

These flowers are called "Mouse on a stick" and feel as soft as they look. There were entire fields of them. I think they were designed by Dr. Seuss.

It was spectacularly beautiful at the top of our hike. This is a view of Mount Shuksan from our lofty perch at 6145 feet above sea level.

Thistles:
This little fellow startled a shriek and an "Oh, Shit!" out of me as i came upon him in on the trail.
A little bit of heaven. I tried to inhale the air and fill up my entire heart with it to hold on to forever. I think i succeeded, at least for a little while.

Oh, not fair.

I'm heading West. Only about 10 miles, but it's a start.

I'm thinking I would like to sit and do nothing while looking at the view from that B&B. hello!

You sure do know how to find beautiful places!

It's amazing how we can live in the same country but be in SUCH different places. There is NOTHING in New England - not even in our mountains - that looks anything like what you have here (well, we have THISTLES, but that's about it...). Thank you so much for sharing - one of the things I love about blogging is that I get to live vicariously through others...except Stucco - I watch THAT crazy man from a safe distance (just kidding, love ya, Stuc!)

heheeh, a virgin goat. These photos are great. Thanks for sharing your view. Breathtaking.

Dr Seuss, goats and a frog? You're reading fairy tales again aren't you.

Lovely view.

Fabulous photos. And I love your ideas about signing guest books!

Uplifting, amusing, and... hey, I want a "mouse on a stick"! (They look like they might make good dusters, LOL.)

I'll have to remember to not tell you to, go fuck a goat!

The pictures are beautiful, I need something more beautiful to look at than Edmonton and parkland.

I took another look at the photos. I love the relections of the trees in the water, it looks like an impressionist painting.

I've got to get up to Baker before long. I used to live in the shadow of Mt. Rainier & did make it up there quite often. I expect Baker is just as beautiful. I'd also like to go on the Ross Lake trip & stay at the lodge there. But I think you have to plan that way out in order to get a reservation.

Sometimes it seems we live so close to some of these places we tend to take them for granted & not go out and just enjoy them. Time to turn a new leaf!

Oh, it's so beautiful, Meno! Much more lush than the mountains in Colorado at this time of year. More pictures, please!

From the playground where I work, we have a majestic view of Mt. Baker. The children love to look at it, scream, and run away, yelling about how it will erupt while scrambling up to the top of the play structure. Ahh...Seattle children. They know their volcanoes. ;)

I always enjoy your photos. You have quite an eye for photography.

lynn, i live close to so many beautiful places that it's easy.

mrs.chili, i would be tempted to stay away from stucco, except that i know his wife, who is a charming woman. In New England you do have lovely fall foliage, we lack that here.

my pool, pretty nice huh? Except for the goat.

toni, We had a great time, as you can see.

ms.chica, i see the weird in everything, even myself.

em, why, thank you. It would have determined if our hostess has a sense of humor all right.

ortizzle, they are really soft and fluffy too. Nature sure has some great diversity.

deb, well come on down and visit sometime. I'll take you around.

dick, as you can see, it is SPECTACULAR! Drive your RV to the end of Hwy 542 and spend some time at Artist's Point. You will not be sorry, well, unless it's raining.

princess, Colorado has it's own beauty, but it is way different that this.

schmoopie, that's funny! You should take a video of them sometime. And thank you. :)

Great pictures. Oh, and I hearby resolve to fill my garden with nothing else but that wonderful 'mouse on a stick' because it is pretty much the coolest name ever. And I know I sound about 13!

Anonymous said...

That's not a little hike you daft brush, that's mountaineering!

Love the flowers, although I mis-read their name as moose on a stick, rather than mouse! Very Dr. Seusse.
Cheers

Those are Truffula Trees in miniature! I'm glad to see the Lorax and his friends found a new place to live. And I'm glad you had a chance to wander through it.

Truly breathtaking.

Oh Meno, no way, I've just come back from climbing sandstone rocks (again) about 1000m either side/size, so not as high, your mountains look like the Swiss Alps!

So beautiful.

I love the feeling up there, the peaceful thing, the sound of the place, nature, seriously fair dinkum beauty....gorgeous pics

I'm still high.

ttq, ha ha! Sorry about the keyboard.

mcewen, 'Twas only 7 miles, a wee jaunt.

nancy, i tried listening to one to see if i could hear a Who.

chili pepper, thank you, i had a good subject.

bob, come visit, we'll go hiking.

pam, you live in a pretty beautiful place yourself, just different.

peevish, they are very soft! I know because i did pet one.

what beautiful pictures, meno! I myself saw Mt. Baker frequently just a couple of weeks ago. In fact, my dad had a little (very little) joke going where he would throw his arm in front of my face and exclaim, "oh look! there's mt. baker!"

and yes, those flowers do like Dr. S. had a hand in making them. how observant of you.

catching up on your posts...the one about retirement is inspiring. I wish more of us could just be content with being, as opposed to doing. Everyone: just slow the hell down, wouldcha?!

Oh man I totally choked on coffee at the goat comment. I swear you and Hoop are related somehow. The other day he was talking about how he'll need insurance if he wants to video little league games professionally. I thought he meant for the cameras. No. He meant in case the SUV goes haywire and he accidentally runs over a bunch of little kids. Went into graphic detail about the accident too. I just stood there with an ill look on my face as all the people in Barnes and Nobles glared at him.

Beautiful pics, meno. Wish I could have been along to see it all first hand. I do miss the PNW.

Breath-taking and replenishing no doubt. Fabulous scenery. I just got back from being isolated but it actually wasn't that rough. Flush toilets and propane stoves/fridges. Just nice and quiet!

When can I go to a B&B with you? I would have LOVED for you to write that.

meno said...

tara, glad you like the pictures. I sure had fun taking them. I see Dr. Seuss all around...dandelions, joshua trees, mugo pines.

tink, heh heh, gotcha! You are welcome to use that line if you ever visit a B&B.

popeye, see? All this might be yours.

qt, the PNW misses you too. Better come visiting.

otj, come on for a visit. the only thing that stopped me from writing that is that i don't really know the owner, and i want to be able to go back. She is the kind who would tell you that you are not welcome, as it is her home. damn!

And where Dr. Suess got his inspiration. I won't comment on your goat impulse, but the photos are beautiful.

crazymumma, it was just that beautiful, insanely.

ren.kat, that's what these thistles look like, there are others. Dr. Seuss must have been from here.

ddm, it was. I am sighing for the chance to return.

mamap, i surely do have a love for nature. But who doesn't?

Western edge of Wyoming, I remember hiking what seemed like a little alpine meadow. One of those afternoons where I just took it all in and it's filed away up there to revisit whenever I want. This trip seems like that too -- sensory delights in every way. (Well, maybe a description of the warm buckwheat pancakes would be called for...)
